William Strouse Foundation

William Strouse Foundation

William George Strouse was born on Christmas Eve, 1981, the youngest of Jim & Mary Strouse’s six children.  Will grew up in Burlington and attended Burlington schools, graduating from Burlington High School in 2000.  Will then moved to Washington, D.C. where he graduated from the Catholic University of America in 2005.  While in D.C., Will met Brittany Isabelle, a fellow Vermonter, and they married in August of 2016.  In November of that same year, Will was diagnosed with stage-4 colon cancer.  He passed away on October 7, 2017.

Will loved life and one of his biggest joys was hosting gatherings for family and friends.  He continually served to remind us all of our blessings in life, particularly one of life’s greatest gifts—friendship.  Will enriched many lives through his contagious energy, humor, generosity, faith, and sportsmanship.

Will grew up in the BAHA organization.  After first learning to skate at Leddy Arena, he followed his older brothers’ footsteps and started playing with BAHA at 4 years old.  He loved hockey from the beginning and always brought a sense of joy to his time on the ice, singing happily to himself as he practiced.  Will played varsity hockey at BHS for four years, including as a member of the 1998 Vermont State Championship team.  He was an active member of the hockey team at the Catholic University of America.  Will continued to play hockey in his adult life with various mens’ leagues—notably, Le Pue in D.C., and the longstanding Monday Night Skate whenever he was in Burlington.  He truly loved the game and the camaraderie that it inspired with all the teammates and friends he played with over the years.  He had a profound impact on those he played with—on and off the ice.

Will’s impact on those he touched, through hockey and beyond, has led to the creation of the William Strouse Foundation.  It was created in Will’s honor and memory and is designed to provide ongoing opportunities and support for youth hockey players in the state of Vermont. This support can include scholarships to cover registration fees, USA Hockey membership, equipment, travel needs, etc.  The foundation primarily supports youth in the BAHA program and at Burlington High School; it also has the ability to reach beyond those organizations for others in need in the state of Vermont.

Thanks to our generous donors, the William Strouse Foundation has been able to provide equipment and scholarships annually for multiple BAHA and high school hockey players in need.
